Finding Your Adaptor Address

An adapter address (also known as a “MAC” address, which has nothing to do with MacIntosh computers) is a set of 6 pairs of hexadecimal numbers (each character of each pair is either a number between 0-9 or a letter between A-F) that uniquley identify your computer. An example adapter address looks like 12:34:56:78:90:AB (some programs will display the address as 12-34-56-78-90-AB).

The adapter address should not begin with 44:45. Addresses that begin with 44:45 are typically modem addresses (also known as PPP Adapters) and will not work.

This is NOT the same as your IP address. An IP address is a set of 4 numbers between 0-255. An example IP address looks like 123.111.222.234.
