Student email service is in the process of moving to CatMail, powered by Google Apps for Education. All new student email accounts created after October 30 are CatMail accounts; students on the University-hosted email system may opt in to the new service any time between November 2 and December 19. UITS will migrate the remaining student accounts December 20. Faculty and staff may opt in to CatMail to gain access to Google Apps, excluding Mail, and will continue to receive email in the University-hosted email system. Directions for opting in are available on the CatMail page.
Email is the official means of communication between the University administration and all students. You are required to have a University of Arizona email account (the address looks like username @ email.arizona.edu or username @ u.arizona.edu). You may have your email redirected (forwarded to an outside email provider), but having email redirected does not absolve you from the responsibilities associated with official communication sent to your @email.arizona.edu account. Important official email notices may be sent to students periodically, and it is your responsibility to monitor your UA email account for such messages. If you don't have your own computer, you may check for email messages by using computers at OSCR Computing Labs and elsewhere around campus. See the University's Official Student Email Policy.
All University employees are expected to have an email account on record, and are expected to check their email on a regular basis in order to stay current with University-related communications. You may have University email redirected (forwarded to an outside email provider), but having email redirected does not absolve you from the responsibilities associated with official communication sent to your @email.arizona.edu account. See the University's Employee Email Policy.
UA email accounts [username @ email.arizona.edu] are available free to all UA students, faculty, and staff.
