
Internet2 is a consortium being led by 206 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet. Internet2 is recreating the partnership among academia, industry and government that fostered today’s Internet in its infancy.

The University of Arizona is one of several universities which participated in the formation of the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID), which oversees and coordinates the Internet 2 project to create a new, super-fast, national computer network for education. The mission of the Internet 2 Project is to "facilitate and coordinate the development, deployment, operation and technology transfer of advanced, network-based applications and network services to further U.S. leadership in research and higher education and accelerate the availability of new services and applications on the Internet."
