UA NetID FAQ's

Q. What is a UA NetID?

Your UA NetID (with password) is your personal identification for using UA online resources. A UA NetID is required of everyone associated with the University of Arizona who plans on using online central administrative programs and computing services. With your UA NetID, you are eligible for various computing services depending on your association with the UA (i.e, student, faculty, staff, or other Department Sponsored Visitor).

Your computing services include interfaces used to access:

  • E-mail and UITS computing accounts (email.arizona.edu, u.arizona.edu (U-System), etc.)
  • Web applications (Employee Link, Student Link, Advisor Link, Form Link, Caucus, etc.)
  • University site-licensed software
  • UITS computer lab
  • UA CBT

UA NetID usernames will no longer be recycled (since 3/3/2008)

Q. Why is a UA NetID necessary?

Your UA NetID verifies who you are when you use the many UA network services. Such verification ensures the privacy of your personal information and restricts the use of resources to those for whom they are intended. To make access to such services more secure and consistent, the UA has consolidated the identifications you need to just one: the UA NetID.

For example: You must first have a UA NetID before you can create an email or U-system computer account.

Q. Should I get a Department Sponsored Visitor account or should I use UAPublic?

UAPublic is an unsecured wireless network for visitors to the University who are working with University employees for short visits or projects (on the order of a week or two, give or take). UAPublic provides the same bandwidth, NO encryption, and features as UAWiFi. If you are visiting the University for a conference or meeting, or perhaps you are a vendor working with a University department, this is probably the network for you. Your sponsor will need to renew your access every twenty days, so if you are visiting for an extended period of time you should obtain a Department Sponsored Visitor Account and use UAWiFi instead.
